DO YOU BELIEVE IN FAIRIES?
10 JULY 2022
Aaaah don't you just love it when the ONLY photo you get, is someone has their eyes closed?!
A Birthday Visit
Anything to do with fairies is a MUST for Arabella and Sienna! They absolutely love them and we surprised Sienna on her 4th birthday with a visit to the fairy houses at Onekiritea Park in Hobsonville.
The park has 5 trees that are covered over 20 unique and beautiful handcrafted fairy houses (built by fairies of course, hehe).
A lady named Jo began creating the fairy houses in March 2020 with her mission to bring joy, wonder and stir imagination. Her mission has definitely succeeded because our girls ran from tree to tree, suuuuper excited to see the next house and what was inside.
One of the things we loved about the park was the fairy wings set permanently on posts near the trees. There are two of them; one for big kids and one for smaller kids.

Can you spot the owls?
This is not an ad for Wild Bean. Mmm
A very creative fairy house
What We Saw Inside
Each fairy house was super unique and we had a lot of fun looking inside the windows at all the adorable fairy sized homeware.
Some had bookshelves, table and chairs, stairs, candles, beds and so many more cute, handcrafted adornments.
The exterior of each house was unique and beautifully put together. The glass, the ladders, the doors and door frames, each piece perfectly crafted! Speaking of ladders, the fairy village ladders are not only held together with glue, but they are also pinned with nails and drilled before each rung to stop them from splitting. The detail, the care and the love that goes into the process of creation is absolutely amazing.
The stone staircases are so smooth, and so incredible, you can't help but rung your fingers up them. The fairy houses are made from recycled materials which is so great to hear. The materials used include scrap metal, bark, lichen, pebbles and stones to name a few.

Fairies Love To Read About Tales... Fairy Tales
Ugh, bad dad joke!
We found this cute little fairy library house which had this adorable little fairy bookshelf which include some of the world's most epic fairy adventure stories. Tales that twirl you into the magical world of fairies of course. We loved how the books had been labelled! Such care and detail and something the kids really appreciated.
As you would expect, every new discovery, lead to a whole set of WOW's all round.
It was a very quick walk around to view all of the fairy houses. It took us around 15 minutes to view them all as the kids were so excited and literally ran from tree to tree so it's an easy and quick walk for the family and there is plenty of space in the park to play games, have a picnic and relax, without the place feeling crowded.

Checking Out The Last Few Pieces Of Magic And Finding An Unusual Concrete Tunnel
The kids had an absolute blast at the park. The magic simply continued and it just seemed to get better and better. By this stage a number of other families had arrived and quite a few people out and about walking their dogs.
As we were heading back, we noticed a concrete tunnel and in good old Tartan Coconut fashion, we had to know what it was and where it led to (such nosey people, aren't we!) In we went and it led us out the back to a brick building which was all locked up. It was a 10 second adventure, but still fun, because we didn't know what we were going to find.
As a family we actually do very little research when it comes to a lot of our adventures. Of course, we get an idea of what it's about, but we like to be surprised, so a lot of what we do we have a general knowledge about and the rest is to be discovered, which we reckon is the best part of adventuring - that's what makes it so magical.

How To Get To The Hobsonville Fairy Houses In Auckland
The Fairy Works Village is located in Onekiritea Park and you'll find the trees opposite 22-32 Catalina Bay Drive. There is lots of street parking along the park but it can get quite full as residents use the parking spots too.
Head down to the park and look for the big trees and see if you can discover the fairy houses!
